Piano Lessons
When it comes to understanding the Language of Music, there is no better instrument to visualize the notes.
With Piano there are a couple different options you can go:
The Classical Route
OR
The Modern Route
The Classical Route really refers to reading sheet music. This is perfect for those who are in school for music theory, in band classes, or anybody who has a want to read sheet music.
The Modern Route was developed at The Sound Room, and allows the player to get used to playing and understanding by ear much more quickly. We use the fundamentals of the Nashville Number System, Chord Theory, and the Major Scale Fundamentalism to get you understanding the language quickly and efficiently.
Which one you choose is not always known immediately, and sometimes you have to get going to best understand what you like and what you don’t.
Book a consultation with a teacher to understand your options more fully.

Music Theory
There are many different ways to teach Music Theory, and the most common way is super boring.
At The Sound Room, we try really hard not to be boring. We want people to think that Music Theory is crazy awesome and MIND BLOWING. This topic, really, is the Language of music - how to read it, how to understand it, how to hear it, and how to speak it (through your instrument of choice).
The Sound Room’s curriculum uses a combination of the Nashville Number System and personal experience around what a modern player really needs to know to get playing in the world. This is stuff like, “How do I use my Guitar Capo effectively”, or, “When my songwriting partner says we’re in the ‘Key of A’, what does that mean exactly?”.
Being able to communicate through music is one of the best joys of a musical journey. Let us share that joy with you!

Recording Engineering
The Sound Room offers lessons in Ableton 12 Suite.
This topic requires a bit more equipment than others, but these days it can be done relatively cheaply. If you have your own laptop already, then it could be as low as a $100-$200 dollar investment to get a decent microphone, a preamp, and the software required to get started.

Songwriting
Music Theory is a prerequisite for Songwriting Lessons (or we learn them hand in hand), as we will discuss lots of Chord Theory and Note choice when it comes to Melodies and Chord Progressions.
Songs are not just ‘thought up’, they are BUILT.
So, just like a building would be built, we need to first establish a strong foundation. My favorite way to teach this is to dissect other people’s songs, and we can choose some of your favorites so that we’re learning songs while also asking the question: “Why would he/she choose to put that chord there?” or, “Where is the Pre-Chorus section in this song in relation to the Bridge?".
Questions like these bring you closer to understanding your own voice and the types of songs and music that you want to create.
It is my hope that all of my students end up wanting to create their own music.
